BRENTFORD GROUNDSHARE PURSUED
from the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle 29 January 2004
by Paul Warburton
Brentford were due to decide at a board meeting yesterday whether to enter into talks with QPR about a possible groundshare in the future. With Fulham set to move back to Craven Cottage next season, Rangers are desperate to find another team to share with them at Loftus Road.
They believe Brentford would be ideal partners and have made overtures to the Bees to see if they are interested.
Brentford director John McGlashan said "QPR have asked us if we would like to have a meeting and I will be putting it to the rest of the board to see if they want to go ahead."
McGlashan has made it clear the Bees are not keen to join up with their near neighbours, but need a fall-back option if they are forced into a groundshare while a new home is built.
He said "QPR's problems are very similar to ours, but with bigger numbers involved.
"We have no intention of going to Loftus Road, but you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow and we have to look at worst-case scenarios.
"If we had to have a groundshare arrangement, QPR are by far the best option."
McGlashan was also keen to stress that Bees want to stay at Griffin Park for as long as possible while they look for another home.
